①给某人加油助威：Cheer sb on
As the runners went by， we cheered them on. 当选手经过时，我们给他们加油助威。
②cheer sb up 让某人振作起来
Nothing can cheer him up now. 没有什么事情能让他振作起来。
cheer sth up给某物添彩，使之眼前一亮
The curtain really cheers the kitchen up. 这个窗帘让厨房看起来眼前一亮。
1cheer up有两种用法
1）做及物动词短语时，意思是“使...高兴/振奋起来”，宾语一般是sb/oneself
如：
You should cheer him/yourself up.
你应该让他/你自己高兴起来。
2）做不及物动词短语时，意思是“（自己）高兴/振奋起来”，此时无宾语，不用被动语态
如：
Hearing the good news， I cheered up.
听到这个好消息，我高兴起来了。
2，cheer on只做及物动词短语，意思是“向...欢呼为...鼓劲加油”，可以加sb/sth做宾语（但sth比较少用）
且on是副词，如果宾语是名词，则宾语放在cheer和on中间或放在on后都可以
如果宾语是代词，则宾语只能放在cheer和on的中间
如：We all cheered him on.
我们都给他加油。
Why not cheer on his wonderful performance? = Why not cheer his wonderful performance on?
为什么不为他的精彩表演加油呢?
