公共场所【比赛（game/race）、演出（performance）、电影（movie）、公共交通（pubic transport）】的座位安排（seating arrangement） 大致分为三种情况。
一种是对号入座（reserved seating/allocated seating/assigned seating），每个座位（seat）都为一个具体的持票者（ticket holder）保留。
一种是不对号入座（general admission/open seating/free seating）：保证有座（a seat is guranteed），但不指定座位（not a specific seat），一般原则是先来先选（first come first choice）。
还有一种是没座位（festival seating），持票者仅被允许进入（be admitted）一个开放场地（open area）。
座位可能面向同一个方向（in one direction），或向内（in inward direction）
例如围绕舞台（around the stage
在车辆上，座位可能向前（facing forward），或向前向后都有（facing partly backward partly forward），即面对面（facing each other），也有的面向一侧（facing to a side）。
