is用于第三人称单数，没有人和物的区别。

例如:

—Who is he? —He is Tom’s father.

—What’s this? —It is a book.

are用于第二人称单、复数和第一、三人称的复数。

例如:

You are a student. They are students， too

is ，过去式was→过去分词been，这是主语为 单数名词，不可数名词，第三人称一些不定代词（something，anything，everything····等等）或者名词性从句等在一般现在时的时态或者be going to/be about to/ be going/be to do等的时态下使用的。
